Lakesha Harrison – Oakland, California Lakesha Harrison
A licensed vocational nurse at Santa Monica Hospital, Harrison joined AFSCME in 2000 and became president of Local 3299 in 2001. Led the fight for pay equity and to prevent layoffs throughout the University of California’s 10 campuses and five medical centers, and helped create a broad-based union leadership that increased the local’s membership from 10% to 70% in seven years. Elected International Vice President in 2008. |
