Letter to Representatives requesting cosponsorship of H. Res. 200, "National Correctional Officers and Employees Week"

April 14, 2005

Dear Representative:

On behalf of the 1.4 million members of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) and the thousands of correctional officers and employees that we represent, I am writing to ask you to cosponsor H. Res. 200, "National Correctional Officers and Employees Week."

This resolution designates the week of May 1, 2005 as a time to recognize the exemplary service performed by correctional personnel in the face of overwhelming obstacles and to honor their commitment to their communities. These men and women represent a crucial component of our criminal justice system and play a vital role in protecting the rights of the public to be safeguarded from criminal activity.

Representative Ted Strickland along with Representatives Mark Green, Tim Holden and John Sweeney introduced H. Res. 200 on April 6, 2005. Please join them in supporting the goals and ideals of "National Correctional Officers and Employees Week" by signing on as a cosponsor of this important resolution. You may contact Janetta King in Representative Strickland's office at 5-5705 for more information.

Sincerely,

Charles M. Loveless
Director of Legislation
