AFSCME Supports Gov. Sebelius for HHS Secretary

Dear Senator:

On behalf of the 1.6 million members of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, I strongly urge you to confirm Governor Kathleen Sebelius as Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

As President Obama has noted, fixing our economic crisis, in part, means fixing our health care system.  Governor Sebelius is primed for this task, having championed health care reform across party lines in her years as Kansas’ governor and insurance commissioner.  She knows firsthand that our broken health care system is hurting America’s families and businesses, and she is prepared to fix it.

In addition to addressing health care and directing our nation’s health research and public health agencies, we can trust Governor Sebelius to lead the agency which provides critical social services from child support enforcement to Head Start for our nation’s most vulnerable populations.

AFSCME urges you to support Governor Sebelius and to confirm her as our country’s next Secretary of HHS.
